A 41-year-old man has been arrested for attempted car hijacking in the north of Pretoria.
Police spokesperson Captain Rebecca Phatlhane said the arrest happened around 18:15 near the corner of Paul Kruger Street and Lavender Road on Tuesday evening.
“The complainant was driving a charcoal Mercedes Benz when he stopped at the robot,” she said.
“One man came towards the driver’s window and another approached the passenger’s side and tried to steal a cellphone from the car.”
The other suspect tried to stab the driver three times, but the driver managed to grab his hand and pulled him into the car.

Phatlhane said Pretoria North police officers on patrol heard the victim scream and intervened.
“One suspect was arrested on the scene and the other one is still on the run.”
Phatlhane appealed with motorists to lock their doors and close their windows at night.
“When approaching a robot at night, always make sure your windows are closed and your valuable goods are in a safe and hidden place in the car.”
