Two men arrested in Silverton for possession of suspected stolen goods

The police searched the vehicle and found an unlicensed firearm, several purses and wallets as well as a substantial amount of cash.

Two men, aged 54 and 28, were arrested in Silverton after being found in the possession of suspected stolen goods and an unlicensed firearm recently.

Police spokesperson Captain Jan Sepato said the police’s crime combating unit was on routine patrol when they noticed a suspicious vehicle at an informal settlement near the corner of Love Drive and Pretoria Street.

“The police stopped the vehicle and found that there were loads of 5-litre containers some of which were filled with diesel,” he said.

“When asked where they got the diesel, the men failed to give a satisfactory answer.”

The police continued to search the vehicle and found an unlicensed firearm, several purses and wallets as well as a substantial amount of cash.

Sepato said the men would face charges of robbery and the possession of suspected stolen items.

The men were expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
