Cash-in-transit officer robbed at west centre

“The robbers had no intention to take the money," – police

A cash-in-transit escort officer was robbed of his firearm and body armour at gunpoint when three robbers pounced on him at a centre in Danville, west of Pretoria.

“They made him lie on the ground and undressed him,” police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma said.

Vuma said the officer was accosted by the men as he moved to the Shoprite Liqour from the OK store nearby.

She added that it appeared the robbers had no intention of robbing him of the money.

“They seem to have known that they wouldn’t have been able to gain access to it from the way the guard was holding it.”

Vuma said the trio escaped the scene in a white VW Polo.

“No shots were fired and no one was injured.”
