UPDATE: Pretoria West mall gets go-ahead

A property developer said it would continue with plans for a much-anticipated mall in Pretoria West.

A property developer recently announced they would continue with plans on a “much-anticipated” mall in Pretoria West.

McCormick Property Development (MPD) said in a statement that an appeal to halt the development of the R1.2-billion Capital Mall was overturned during a sitting of the metro’s municipal appeals tribunal in April.

“This paved the way for the development of the regional mall which will bring over 3 000 employment opportunities to the surrounding communities,” they said.

They said the mall would have direct access off both the N4 highway and WF Nkomo Street and would be situated on the planned N4/R55 interchange.

“The development node includes a 150 bed private hospital, value retail centre, motor dealerships, affordable housing, student housing, schooling and community facilities,” they said.

“The development of the mall will be phased with 60 000 square metre gross leasable area planned to open towards the end of 2021.”

They said the design allowed the mall to seamlessly expand to over 100,000 square metres in time, without the need for structured parking facilities.

“On completion, the mall will be the biggest development in our portfolio,” they said.

“It will be well aligned to the massive population growth within the region.”

“This development will be a game-changer for the community of Pretoria West.”

While the new mall will be the biggest project to date for McCormick, it is just one of the several developments in the company’s development pipeline.

After a nine year wait, the rights for Jean Junction, on the Jean Avenue off-ramp off the M1/N14 (Ben Schoeman) highway have also been approved by the Tshwane metro.

It was hoped the site would be the greenest office precinct in the country, they said.
