It is second nature for a police officer to be always observant, whether on or off duty and this again proved useful when two Brooklyn police officers chased down and arrested a suspect in Waverley.
Brooklyn police praised Constable Vinette Grobler and Captain Colette Weilbach for their commitment and dedication.
“On Thursday (last week), around 13:40, two female police officers were on their way home when they spotted a young man running away with a group of men chasing him near the corner of Codonia and Cunningham avenues. The man was cornered and apprehended on 34th Avenue by the two police officers,” Brooklyn police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said.
Weilbach said later, the Waverley liquor store manager informed the two that the man was his employee who had been caught “red-handed stealing from the till”.
“The 21-year-old suspect was immediately handed over to Villieria SAPS and will appear in the Pretoria magistrate’s court on charges of theft,” she said.
The manager was impressed with the efficiency of the SAPS and thanked the two for their quick response and assistance, Weilbach added.
