An 18-year-old student has been arrested for concealment of birth.
“Yesterday at about 09:00, a 35-year-old can recycler discovered the body of a newborn child in a dustbin in Clearwater Street in Lynnwood Glen. He immediately contacted the police and investigations led to the arrest of a student,” said police spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach.
She said the student would appear in the Hatfield community court soon.
Weilbach urged pregnant women to consider counselling which could provide a strong support network during difficult times.
“Unwanted pregnancies can be an emotional experience and we urge young women to seek help. Most universities and colleges have student counselling services available,” she said.
