A pregnant woman pleaded with intruders not to hurt her, when she and her mother and sister were robbed at gunpoint at her parents’ home on Wednesday morning.
“We just kept telling them I am four-months pregnant and I asked them not to hurt me,” said Marlene Muller (25).
Muller had been visiting her parents’ home in Laetitia Avenue, Murrayfield, when her father and brother left to buy material for her mother’s business at around 10:00.

“We were in the house when we noticed a man approaching,” said Muller.
“My mother, Antoinette Maritz (44), often gets items couriered to her.
“But when my mother opened the front door the man, who was on the phone, simply said, ‘You can come now’ and then he ran off.”
Feeling that something was wrong, Muller’s mother locked the front door and went to her bedroom to get the family’s revolver.
When Maritz returned she saw two armed men making their way into the house.
“The glass sliding door has a mechanism which we use to lock it,” said Muller.
“It isn’t easy to open if you’re not familiar with it. Somehow they managed to easily get through the door.”
The armed men ordered Maritz at gunpoint to put the revolver down.
“The younger of the two could not have been older than 18, while the other was in his late 30s or early 40s.”
The men took the revolver and demanded money and jewellery.

“Weirdly, they didn’t take my iPhone,” said Muller.
“They demanded my mother and sister’s Samsung phones, but just told me to switch mine off and to keep it.”
Taking the revolver and jewellery, the men made for the door where they stopped.
They turned around, the one saying to the other: “They have seen us. They know what we look like.
“I don’t know if my being pregnant led to their decision to leave us unharmed.
“But as quickly as it all started it had ended. They were gone.”
The women were able to notify Muller’s father, who returned to the scene to help.
Police were also notified and arrived at the scene 30 minutes later.
“We are just grateful we weren’t hurt,” said Muller.
“I had a check-up with my doctor after the incident to ensure the shock did not affect my baby. Luckily, everything is fine.”
Muller took to social media to warn residents in the area to be vigilant.
Garsfontein police were investigating a case of house robbery, said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Michael Nel.
Police are requesting anyone with more information which could assist in finding the robbers to contact the toll-free emergency number 0800-10111.
