NEWSFLASH: Man clobbered with crowbar in west robbery

During the robbery, two dogs were poisoned.

A man was viciously assaulted with a crowbar during a business robbery in Hercules in the early hours of Friday.

During the robbery, two dogs were poisoned, said Hercules sector 4 CPF chairperson Nico van Vuuren.

“I received a call around 04:10, and was told that a group of armed men were inside the business premises. I rushed to the scene and found out that the robbers had jammed the gate with wires and made it difficult to get inside the farm,” Van Vuuren said.

“I was the first one on the scene and saw two of the robbers trying to break into the office. More of our guys came soon after and we tried our best to surround the area to make it difficult for them (robbers) to flee.”

Van Vuuren said when they finally gained access, the robbers fled into the bushes.

“As I got inside, I saw that a man (worker) was bleeding heavily. He was tied up and assaulted in the head with a crowbar,” he said.

The robbers were armed with different weapons, including a rifle, Van Vuuren said.

Hercules CPF member Ricky Louw said music equipment including speakers and a DVD player were stolen but the suspect dropped them when Sector 4 people were on their heels.

Hercules police confirmed that a case of business robbery was being investigated.
