Moot police have cautioned Villieria motorists to be more safety conscious, following an increase in vehicle-related crimes in the area.
“We have seen a rise in vehicle-related crimes reported at our station,” said police spokesperson Captain Coba Brits.
Brits said three people were arrested for these crimes last week.
“One person was arrested for being in the possession of a stolen vehicle,” she said.

“A second was arrested for possession of property stolen out of a vehicle in Sunnyside earlier that morning.”
Brits said this latest arrest happened last Thursday.
She said the arrest was thanks to good teamwork between police and the metro police.
Brits said a third person was arrested earlier in the week on Wednesday just after 14:00 while Tshwane metro police officers were busy with patrols in Waverley.
“He was arrested after he tried to steal a vehicle at a school,” she said.
“Officers heard the car alarm go off and responded immediately,” she said.
“They spotted a suspicious black Nissan Almera near the school. A chase ensued, but the Almera was lost in the pursuit.”
Brits said a lookout was immediately given over the police radio to alert all patrol vehicles.
“Vigilant police officers from Villieria police spotted the suspicious vehicle in a small street in the industrial area in Koedoespoort,” she said.

She said they managed to arrest one of the suspects.
“A second suspect escaped and is still at large,” she said.
Brits said car break-in equipment, jamming devices and a stolen handbag were found inside the vehicle.
Villieria police station commander Colonel Silas Thoka congratulated all officers involved in making the arrests.
“Vehicle-related crimes are among our top priority crimes that are addressed daily during crime prevention operations,” he said.
Ancelize van der Kooi from Kilnerpark Security also said several vehicle-related crimes were reported to them regularly.
She provided the following safety tips for motorists:
– Do not leave valuable items in vehicles unattended.
– Make sure your vehicle is lock properly by physically testing the door handle.
– Try and park the vehicle inside yards.
– Park vehicles in parking areas near other vehicles.
– Park vehicles where cameras or other security measures are in place.
