As a Pretoria North family was still reeling from the theft of two laptops from their business, the police have identified other common crimes in the area.
Akaisa police spokesperson Captain Riana van Arde said theft out of and of motor vehicles were a problem in the area, followed by bank-followings after people had withdrawn large sums of money.
Pretoria North police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi said robberies in taxis and in the street were a problem in his policing precinct.

He advised pedestrians to rather walk in groups in secluded or bushy areas early in the morning and late at night.
Nkoadi said hijackings of Ford Rangers were increasing likely as a result of a growing market for the stolen vehicles.
“Robberies in hair salons are still happening,” he said.
He said that robbers usually held the owner along with patrons hostage and took their belongings and money and also stole a vehicle they fancied as they left.
Meanwhile, Pierre du Plessis – who owns a trailer company in Pretoria North – has warned other business owners to be alert after he was robbed by people who posed as clients.

“Two people came into the shop to enquire about a trailer. My son took one person to the back to look at a trailer. The other person stayed behind in the office as he was busy talking on his phone,” Du Plessis said adding that after the two left he had noticed that two laptops were missing.
“On the CCTV footage I saw the would-be client casually going from office to office before leaving the premises.”
Du Plessis suspected the would-be client hid the laptops under his shirt when he left the offices.
“I am worried about all the work on the laptops and the confidential information such as bank details.”
Pretoria North police spokesperson Matthews Nkoadi said a case of theft was opened.
