The community of Mamelodi has been asked to help the police prevent assaults and house break-ins in the area.
Police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso said the police had received several complaints and most of the assaults involved alcohol and beer bottles, knives and other dangerous weapons were used.
“These assaults happen at taverns homes, parties and other places where people have been drinking.
“The public is encouraged to drink responsibly and avoid arguments when drunk.”

Maheso said another matter that arose were housebreakings and theft committed by young people to get cash for drugs.
“As the Mamelodi police we request the community to put into practice a saying that ‘it takes a nation to raise a child’ – how do we do it as a society.”
Maheso said firstly, children had to be discouraged from taking alcohol and standing at street corners where they smoked and drank alcohol.
“It must be the work of every responsible adult, parents and police to stop this. By doing so, we will be protecting these children from being involved in any form of crime,” he said.

“We will also be reducing the number of assaults and housebreaking incidents in our community.”
Maheso pleaded with the public to work together with the police by reporting any suspicious person to the police on 08600-101111.
