‘Attacker’ shot and wounded by west military personnel

Police warned motorists to be alert of suspicious people in vehicles who force them to stop.

The driver of a luxury vehicle was shot and wounded after he allegedly tried to forcefully stop another luxury vehicle in the west of Pretoria on Friday.

This as the driver of a BMW reportedly tried stopping a Mercedes Benz and also fired at the Benz’s passengers.

The attackers in the BMW was later fired on and wounded by military personnel at the nearby 1Military Hospital as the people in the Benz were driving towards the hospital.

Police could not confirm whether the incident was an attempted hijacking or a possible road rage incident.

“It is not yet clear what the motive might be,” said Atteridgeville police spokesperson Mapula Rikhotso.

Police warned residents to be suspicious of people in vehicles who might force them to stop.

“If you need to pull over, make sure it is in a public place to avoid falling victim,” Rikhotso said.

Police could not confirm at the time of going to press how many arrests were made or whether anyone else was injured in the incident.
