NEWSFLASH: One killed, five seriously hurt in west crash

A bakkie struck a cyclist before crashing into a tree in the west of Pretoria.

A man was killed and five others were injured after a vehicle struck a cyclist before crashing into a tree in the west of Pretoria on Sunday evening.

The accident happened on Van der Hoff Road around 18:00, according to Best Care emergency services spokesperson Xander Loubser.

“A cyclist sustained fractures and was transported to Kalafong (hospital) by Best Care.

“One of the passengers from the bakkie, unfortunately, passed away on the scene,” he said.

Loubser said the driver and other passengers suffered injuries ranging from critical to serious.

“One of the passengers in the back of the bakkie sustained critical head injuries and he was stabilised on the scene before being airlifted by Halo 1 to hospital,” Loubser said.
