UPDATE: ‘Bushiri protesters’ case back in court

The two men were set to plead during proceedings.

The two men arrested in connection with protesting outside the Shepherd Bushiri church earlier this year were due back in court on Monday.

During their last appearance, the Atteridgeville magistrate’s court said it would be a final postponement for their plea and trial.

The trial was initially set to commence last month, but the state witnesses were apparently not available.

Kabelo Tladinyane and Kennedy Nemoshongwa were arrested during protests after three congregants died and 17 were injured when a stampede broke out at the Enlightened Christian Gathering church last year.

They men were released on R500 bail each.

A third accused, Price Gcaba, failed to arrive in court on the set date, after he too was granted bail.

Tladinyane and Nemoshongwa have been charged with public violence and violation of a road traffic act.
