UPDATE: Another attack hours apart

Small holdings in Pretoria North being targeted as a resident was shot at hours after other residents were tied up and robbed.

Hours after two men were tied up and robbed at a smallholding in Lusthof in Pretoria north, another group of armed robbers struck again.

On Tuesday another victim was shot at, two plots from where the attack took place on Monday evening.

The owner of the smallholding heard his dogs barking when he went outside to inspect what was going on.

“The unknown group of men opened fire. Luckily he did not get shot,” said Frik du Preez, crime coordinator of the Lusthof ground owner society.

Du Preez, who is the victim’s direct neighbour, immediately reacted and called for backup when the gunshots went off.

A week prior to the shooting, the victim’s property was also targeted by unknown suspects in an attempted house break-in.

Shortly after the gunshot went off, Du Preez noticed his dogs storming towards the corner of his property.

As he walked around his house, he saw two suspects standing at the fence.

He then fired two warning shots which saw the suspects fleeing the area.

Within minutes the local CPF and members of the GAC Risk Solutions responded to the smallholding.

After hours of patrolling, the search party was called off.

The previous night (8 July) a group of suspects once again forcefully gained entrance to the smallholding.

Du Preez managed to alert the CPF while the robbers were kicking the door to gain entry.

Spokesperson for the Hammanskraal police, Constable Herman Moremi confirmed police are investigating a case of house robbery.

“It is alleged that the victim was with his friends inside a rondavel at the plot in Hammanskraal North of Pretoria when three unknown men knocked at the door,” said Moremi.

“Suddenly they pushed the door and got inside, one armed with a firearm and two with pangas.

“They tied them up and searched them, managed to get one cellphone and fled the scene. No one was injured and no one has been arrested at this moment,” Moremi concluded.
