Local organisation donates food parcels

“Our organisation was founded with the aim to help young people with challenges that they are facing nowadays.”

Staff and children of SOS Villiage in Mamelodi East recently received donated food parcels, clothes, sanitary pads and a prepared lunch.

The generous donation was made by the non-profit organisation Kurhula Matikweni.

Mandisa Ngobeni from Kurhula Matikweni said that along with the donation, they also presented motivational talks to the children at the village.

Children and staff were treated with poems, sang songs and pantsula dance.

Special guest Khumo RMD from Team Mosha entertained the children at the village, singing his popular song “Waya Waya”.

Ngobeni said their organisation was founded on April 2019 with the aim to help young people with challenges that they are facing nowadays.

“Our young people are suffering from depression, peer pressure, drug abuse, human trafficking and women abuse,” she said.

“However, they are not receiving enough help or support from their family and community.

“Our community is quick to judge, rather than producing a solution. Therefore, we have created a platform where our young people can come to us when they have challenges or need any sort of help.”

Nigobeni said their main goal was to bring people from the local community together to give them inspiration about what Kurhula Matikweni is hoping to achieve with their programme.

“Other programmes by the organisation is to support children who have been infected and affected with HIV/AIDS, and early childhood development and outreach programmes to disadvantaged communities with the aim of preventing family disintegration.”

She said Matikweni would be visiting Tsako Thabo Secondary School in Mamelodi East on Friday to hand over food parcels and sanitary pads.

She added that the organisation had another project where they gave learners the opportunity to attend their matric farewell, supplying the dress, tuxedo, dream car to drop them off the venue, dance partner, evening jewellery and evening bag and, where possible, shoes.

Donations of above-mentioned have been requested from the community.

Schools will be approached to identify the learners and “fitting days” will be arranged, she said.

She pleaded with the public to support the projects, because they did not have any funds at the moment.

Mandisa concluded that they obtained all donations from close friends and family members.
