A man was arrested in Pretoria West on Thursday for running an illegal business and trying to bribe the police.
“Two police officers investigated a flat at the corner of Zeiler and WF Nkomo streets following an anonymous tip-off about a man illegally selling number plates,” said police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.
“They found a 41-year-old man in a room full of registration plates, registration papers, stencils and other equipment.”
The man failed to give a reason for having the equipment, number plates and registration discs, which were reportedly ready for collection.

Vuma said the suspect attempted bribing the officers by offering them R1 000 in exchange for not arresting him.
Instead, the officers arrested the man and confiscated all the equipment and documents, including the bribe money.
Station commander Colonel Michelle Toohey applauded the officers for their commitment and encouraged them to keep up the good work.
Toohey also thanked the community for working hand in hand with the police.
The suspect was charged for the possession of fake registration papers, car registration plates, stencils and fake international drivers licences.
He was expected to appear before the Pretoria West Magistrate’s Court soon.
