The show, which airs every Wednesday, is called Social Media, said writer, director and producer, George Bila.

He said the cast and crew of the show was made up of residents from East Lynne, Eersterust and Mabopane.

He said they were a total of 14 cast and crew members – Felicity Matshimane, Neo Nkwe, Charlton Jaftha ,Dikeledi Rabotho, Gideon Madikwe, Mongi Makogoro, Lemogang Mahlangu, Kagiso Mohajane, Refuwa Mofokeng, Sylvester Mathedimosa, Estelle Banda and Thandeka Motubatsi.

“We did not only start this web series for entertainment purposes but also to create awareness about certain ills in our communities,” he said.

Bila said the show mostly focused on human trafficking through social media.

He said the series was about a young girl, Vivian (portrayed by Felicity Matshimane) who meets “a prefect man”, Clive (portrayed by Neo Nkwe).

“Clive is rich on social media and when it is too late, she finds out that he is a human trafficker,” he explained.

“However, Vivian is also dating an undercover police officer, called Ronald (portrayed by Sylvester Mathedimosa), who ends up saving her.”

Bila said they created the web television series to make women, especially young girls, aware of the dangers of trusting people on social media.

“Some people are not real on social media and people tend to trust too easily,” he said.

“Which is why they must take careful consideration nowadays, especially that we are in the fourth industrial revolution.”

He said people also needed to be aware that there was a “good side” to social media.

“If you are using it wisely, much like we are doing, you can start your business and connect with the world,” he said.

Bila said he, along with his team, want to make the series “the first township series to be successfully known in South Africa” and sustainable.

“Further along the line we also want to host workshops at schools about 4IR (fourth industrial revolution) and how to use it wisely,” he said.

He said their latest episode was number five.
