European classic cars on show in Silverton
“I’ve been collecting vintage cars for years now and I’m on number four. This one was specially made in Spain around 1972, but was made available in South Africa a year later.”
Hundreds of vintage and classic cars were on show at the Pretoria Old Motor Club House in Silverton on Sunday.
On display were mostly European cars and bikes by the club and other clubs.
Johan Krause, who owns a 1972 SEAT Abarth 750, said the club was a “good place” to be if you’re a vintage car lover.
“I’ve been collecting vintage cars for years now and I’m on number four. This one was specially made in Spain around 1972, but was made available in South Africa a year later,” he said.
“I’m the fourth owner and bought it a few years ago and had to rework almost everything from the engine to the interior,” he said.

Stef Coetzee, owner of a Mercedes Benz 1978 Unimog, said being part of these car shows kept him busy and entertained.
The indestructible Unimog has become one of the living legends and can be used to do many things, he said.
“This truck belonged to a friend of mine; unfortunately, he passed away in 2013. I took the responsibility of taking care of it and, as you can see, this truck is my second home – it has everything I need,” he said.
“In honour of my friend’s memory, I have named the truck after him to keep his legacy.”
