UPDATE’ ‘Murder friends’ accused in court today

Richard Wood died in hospital after he was severely assaulted in 2017.

The two men accused of murdering their “friend” Richard Wood (26) will return to the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court today.

It was previously postponed as the director of public prosecutions was yet to approve the plea agreement.

The case has been ongoing for more than a year.

In a previous appearance, the court allowed the case to be postponed after Christopher van der Westhuizen – said to have been Wood’s best friend – and Marchant Bredell decided to propose the plea agreement to the state prosecutor outside court.

Wood died on 13 November 2017 after lying in a coma in a Ga-Rankuwa hospital for more than a week after he was severely assaulted outside a pub in Pretoria North.

Van der Westhuizen was arrested in 2018 and charged with the murder alongside Bredell.
