Churches targeted by criminals

Valuable items and sound equipment are being stolen as criminals target churches in the area.

Criminals have targeted various churches in Ga-Rankuwa in the past few weeks, the police have warned.

“The police in Ga-Rankuwa have noted with great concern the spate of burglaries that are now taking place in churches,” Captain Matthews Nkoadi, police spokesperson said.

“The police has experienced a number of these break-ins. The break-ins occur in almost all sectors in the area.”

Nkoadi said in most of these reported burglaries, entry was gained through the burglar doors or windows.

“It is clear criminals targeting the churches are after valuable content inside the church.”

“Items that are targeted includes expensive sound systems, candle sticks and other valuable items.”

The Ga-Rankuwa police are appealing to church communities to make sure that they improve their security or if possible hire security guards to curb the increased break-in incidents.
