Diplomat’s home burns in the east
The house of the Mali embassy was badly damaged and the family lost many of their items.
The home of a Mali diplomat was engulfed by flames in Groenkloof on Tuesday afternoon.
Tshwane Emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said firefighters attended to the scene at the Groenkloof village in Herbert Baker Street at 16:56.
Mabaso said 4 of 11 rooms were completely gutted with the roof having collapsed.

Groenkloof Village manager Graham De Lange said the house that belonged to the Mali embassy was badly damaged.
“They lost everything,” he said.
Ward councillor Shaun Wilkinson said residents joined hands to assist the family with accommodation.
“The residents of the local community are going to assist with temporary shelter, comfort and food,” he said.
Wilkinson also commended the firefighters for their speedy response.

Mabaso said a witness had said when he saw flames coming out of the house, they had quickly ran inside to help the children.
He said no one was injured and the cause was subject to investigation.
