North good cop saves the day with a bicycle
When a single dad asked Facebook users to help him replace his daughter's lost bicycle, a local good cop came to the rescue.
A local police officer restored a little girl’s faith in humanity and the police by replacing her lost bicycle.
Mark Duyvesteyn, a single father from Pretoria North, took to Facebook in a desperate attempt to replace his 10-year-old daughter’s bicycle which she had recently lost.
“My daughter forgot her bicycle at a friend’s a while ago. I kept wanting to go fetch the bicycle, but never got around to it. When we recently went there, we discovered the family had moved and could not get hold of them,” Duyvesteyn told Rekord.

Duyvesteyn felt extremely guilty for not picking up the bicycle and decided to ask Facebook users to help him replace it.
Not long after, a good Samaritan police officer from the Pretoria North station contacted him to offer a bicycle.
On 13 July, Duyvesteyn and his daughter Shannon Valley drove to the police station to meet Warrant Officer Jan Fourie, who made Shannon’s day by giving her a bicycle.
Fourie told Rekord he decided to give away his daughter’s old bicycle when he read Duyvesteyn’s plea on Facebook.
“I first asked my daughter if it was okay if I gave away her old bicycle to another girl and she said yes. She has a new bicycle and her old bicycle was just in the way at home,” the Good Samaritan explained.
“An awesome answer to a little Girls plight for her missing bicycle and a massive save to dads disappointment in himself for dragging my feet and losing her bike. Police Officer Jan Fourie you have rescued Souls tonight and that was the best visit to your Police Station Ive ever had lol! Thank you Sir – Respect to armed kindness,” Duyvesteyn posted to Facebook with a photo of his daughter and the officer.

Duyvesteyn said his daughter is extremely scared of police officers due to previous bad experiences.
This kind gesture by the police officer has made her less terrified of the police.
“While she posed with the police officer for a photo, Shannon complimented the officer, saying he looks good,” Duyvesteyn said.
