Children treated at Steve Biko as part of #MandelaDay
"Children at the paediatric ward were full of giggles and pretty smiles as they received gifts from the Tshwane metro."
Children in the paediatric ward at the Steve Biko Academic Hospital were treated to goodies during a visit by the Tshwane metro as part of the Mandela Day commemoration.
Metro council deputy speaker councillor, Zweli Khumalo, visited the hospital on Thursday with goodie packs for the 140 sick children on Thursday, said spokesperson Lindela Mashigo.
“The ward was filled by giggles and pretty smiles as the children received gifts from Khumalo,” he said, adding that the donation of teddy bears was in partnership with ABC Sweets.

Khumalo was accompanied by hospital CEO Dr Mmabatho Mathebula.
“As a caring city, we thought of doing something that will brighten up their day and bring a smile to their little faces,” Khumalo said.
“A nation is judged by its children and this initiative comes from the heart of each and every employee who contributed to this project.”
Mashigo said the bears were knitted by personnel from the Office of the Speaker and ward councillors.
“I want to applaud all those who dedicated their leisure time to knit and crochet 140 special bear characters, each with unique personalities that most resembles themselves to ensure that this day gets realised,” Khumalo said.
