Probe into Eersterust man’s 2011 disappearance launched

“That was the last time we saw him, when the ambulance took him.”

The health department has launched an investigation to establish what happened to an Eersterust man after he was apparently transported to the Mamelodi Hospital by ambulance, but was never seen or heard from again since 2011.

A severely ill Roy Arendse was apparently discharged from the hospital without his family’s knowledge on 3 January 2011.

“The last time we saw him was when the ambulance took him,” Arendse’s uncle David Arendse said.

Arendse told Rekord he opened a missing person’s docket at the local police station afterwards.

“From that year until 2018 we did not receive any communication from the police on the progress or the status of Roy’s case,” Ardense said.

In 2019, however, he said local police contacted the family and asked that Roy’s brother Peter have his blood drawn.

“They told us it would take three months for the results to come back,” he said.

In an interview with Rekord, he said the family had still not had any feedback about the blood which was drawn or the status of the case.

On Monday, Rekord learned Roy had not been treated at the Mamelodi Hospital, but at a clinic.

Tshwane district health services spokesperson Sydney Mahlo said they were investigating what happened but could not give further information.

Anyone with info on Roy’s possible whereabouts or know where he could be found are urged to contact police or David Arendse on 076-793-5618.
