West police conduct school safety operation

The police were called on by the school to deal with 'problematic' classes.

Ninety Grade 10 and 11 learners were searched for drugs during a surprise visit by Pretoria West police to Royal Schools Queens Private on Friday.

“A sniffer dog was used to search their bags,” said police spokesperson Constable Sibongile Vuma.

The police were assisted by the social crime prevention unit together with the Pretoria K9 unit.

Vuma said the school requested the visit and search of “problematic” classes.

Nothing was confiscated and no drugs were found on the learners, said Vuma.

“The school’s principal and educators applauded the visit from the police and also learners were motivated to stay away from drugs and focus on studies.”
