Hospital management said Mohamed would be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
The Netcare Unitas Hospital in Centurion this week expressed its condolences to the family of a “highly respected and well-liked” late maxillofacial and oral surgeon.
Dr Ashraf Mohamed, who has been practicing at the hospital for 20 years, and his father were killed in a multi-vehicle accident on the corner of Wierda Road and the R55 in Sunderland Ridge last Friday.
“We at the Netcare Group mourn the loss of a healthcare professional of such great stature,” said Jacques du Plessis, managing director of Netcare’s hospital division.
“Dr Mohamed was highly respected and well-liked by his colleagues, patients as well as by the staff and management of Netcare Unitas hospital.”

Du Plessis said Mohamed would be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
“We wish to express our sincere condolences to his wife, Rehana, and children.”
Mohamed completed his undergraduate and post-graduate studies at the University of the Western Cape.
Thereafter he went on to do his maxillofacial specialist training at the Groote Schuur Hospital.
His paediatric maxillofacial training was completed at the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town.
“He not only contributed at a clinical level to the Unitas hospital but also played an active role in assisting the management with suggestions to improve processes to the benefit of patients and the communities it serves,” said Du Plessis.
Mohamed was also known for a medical procedure in which he reattached a 12-year-old boy’s jaw after a quad-bike accident in 2005.
The procedure was said to be the first of its kind in the world.
