New library for Ga-Rankuwa residents

A new library in Ga-Rankuwa Unit 20 opened on the 16th of July 2019, with services that aim to empower and develop the community.

Ga-Rankuwa residents who looked forward to their new library can now enjoy the newly launched facility which started operating on 16 July 2019.

The library, that was completed in February 2018, was opened in Ga-Rankuwa Unit 20 for community members to utilise.

The new library comprises a toddler section with a games room, junior, teenage and adult lending section, a reference section and a study hall.

“The library has a wide variety of books for all ages (including fiction, non-fiction, books in foreign languages). Community members are allowed to come and borrow a book, use the computer centre, and make copies as the copier will be available for public use,” said library assistant Rethabile Mhlongo.

Since the library opened access to Tshwane Wi-Fi has been a problem thus making certain library services unavailable.

“Our system is currently down as our internet cable was stolen, however, the matter is being resolved,” added Mhlongo.

Community residents are happy that the library can now be used after a long time since its completion.

“I am glad they have finally opened the doors of the library and we now have a safe, peaceful place to study and do our assignments,” said Nothemba Lumkwane, who was already studying in one if the library facilities.

“The library will bring a lot of change in the community. Information is freely and readily available to everyone. Children and youth now have a place to study without disruptions, security is there, and it is convenient. I mean I walk only five minutes to get there,” resident Thabang Sechabeng told Record.

The Tshwane Community Library and Information Service aims to develop library services that will provide educational, social, and recreational needs to the community.

The library is open for 10 hours on weekdays and 6 hours on Saturday.
