Retired teachers give back to East home
“The retired teachers used their own money to buy toiletries for residents of the Mamelodi Old Age Home.”
Mamelodi Old Age Home residents were gifted warm clothes and toiletries.
The generous donation was made by members of retired teacher organisation, Mamelodi Professional Senior Citizens Association on Tuesday.
Association chairperson Samuel Phahlane said this was not the first time they donated to the home.
He said they donated to remind the elderly that they still loved them and had not forgotten them.

He during their last visit the had promised return because they felt a lot needed to be done at the home.
“The money that we used to buy toiletries comes from our own pockets and we asked locals to donate the clothes.”
He said the association, now more than 200 member strong, was formed in 2010 by local retired teachers to “empower the various organisations that helped the local community”.
Home social worker Olga Radingwana said they were happy to receive the donations.
“The home often runs out of toiletries because it depended on charity,” she said.
She also encouraged other organisations in the area to also make donations to the home.
