Sewage smell driving Pta North residents nuts
“With the current strike workers have been threatened if they go to work. So it might take a while before the leak can be fixed.”
A nasty sewage smell is driving Pretoria North residents up the walls, they say.
“It is really disgusting and unhealthy,” Danielle de Jager, a concerned resident who contacted Rekord, said.
De Jager, who lives in Delia Street in Dorandia, said the smell is originating from a sewage leak only a few meters from her home.
“It smells like poo in our house. It is really bad enough to make a person sick.”

The burst sewage pipe is close to a complex and leaks into the river.
It is believed a drain got blocked, which caused a pipe to burst and leak sewage into the stream at a field.
“Can you imagine what our house smell like? It is unbearable. The smell does not go away, even while you eat, you smell it. We have to shut all our windows and doors.”
De Jager said she tried reporting the problem to the metro, but without any luck.
“They put you on hold for anything from about 20 minutes to an hour,” De Jager said.

She has, however, reported the problem to her local councillor.
Councillor Yolanda Duvenagne confirmed receiving a complaint about the blocked drain.
“The drain has been unblocked twice before,” Duvenagne said.
“The problem has been reported to the municipality, but with the current strike workers have been threatened if they go to work. So it might take a while before the leak can be fixed.”
