“According to the law, any person who, without a lawful burial order, disposes of the body of any newborn child with intent to conceal the fact of its birth; whether the child died before, during or after birth, shall be guilty of an offence and liable to conviction to a fine or imprisonment.”

Weilbach said the condition in which the foetus was found was not yet known as police were still at the scene.

She said unwanted pregnancies can be an emotional experience and urged women to seek counselling if they are found in such circumstances.

“Women are urged to consider counselling which can provide a strong support network during difficult times,” she said.

“Most universities and colleges have student counselling services available.”
