More than 1 300 archers competed in the National Archery in School Program (Nasp) on Saturday, with North Gauteng comprising the largest group in the country.

More than 170 archers from 17 schools gathered at Hoërskool en Laerskool Raslouw in Centurion for the first Nasp North Gauteng championship since Nasp Gauteng split into two towards the end of 2018.

Laerskool Raslouw became the first North Gauteng Champions after NASP Gauteng split into two regions. This is also the first time they’ve won the provincial team championship.

After a fun event where safety was paramount, the following archers were crowned provincial champions:

High School: Matt O’Callaghan from Hoërskool Erasmus in Bronkhorstspruit.

Primary School: Elinza O’Callaghan from Kroonspruit Academy in Bronkhorstspruit.

“In our team event, Hoërskool Zwartkop made it three in a row after winning the last two Nasp Gauteng events as well.

“We are extremely proud of each and every archer,” the organisation said.

Provincial teams will now be selected to compete at the Nasp SA Interprovincial Championship in eMalahleni in September.
