Motorists urged to make road safety a priority ahead of the long-weekend

Gauteng motorists, particularly public transport operators, have been urged to make road safety a priority this long weekend.

The Gauteng department of community safety said that in the past, the province experienced road crashes which ultimately resulted in many people losing their lives.

“Many of these accidents occurred due to non-compliance with the rules of the road. As we approach the long weekend, the department would like to encourage motorists to obey the rules of the road.

“Our law enforcement authorities will be on high alert to deal decisively with road traffic violations such as driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless and negligent driving, excessive speeding, freight overloading and roadworthiness this long-weekend,” the department said.

The department also urged law enforcement officers to conduct themselves with due diligence.

Other operations will be on crime prevention in an effort to ensure a safe long-weekend for our communities.
