NEWSFLASH: Motorists urged to be cautious on N1 highway after fire

This after a fire broke out near the Stormvoel exit causing a lot of smoke which may hamper visibility.

Motorists have been urged to be cautious when using the N1 highway near the Stormvoel exit.

This was according to Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso who said the warning for caution followed a fire at Penguin Pools near the highway at around 15:00 this afternoon.

“It was initially a grass fire. It then spread into the yard of the Penguin Pools due to rubbish in the vicinity of the premises catching fire.

“We have two fire stations that have turned out and are extinguishing the fire,” Mabaso said

“The rubbish that is on fire is causing a lot of smoke which may hamper visibility around the highway.

“We have requested the Tshwane metro police to monitor the highway and motorists should exercise caution.

Mabaso also cautioned people who lived near grassy areas to make sure their housekeeping was in order.

“This is to ensure that when there is a grass fire, it does not easily spread. Poor housekeeping also adds to fires spreading quicker,” said Mabaso.
