NEWSFLASH: North cops on scent of early-morning store robbers

A shopper was also taken hostage at the shopping centre.

Armed robbers targeted the Wonderboom Junction shopping centre on Monday morning, making off with an undisclosed amount of goods.

“Three armed suspected managed to get away with an undisclosed amount of goods from a health and cosmetics store,” the centre’s spokesperson said.

The robbery reportedly took place at 06:30.

The centre added that one shopper was taken hostage.

“While a customer was unfortunately taken hostage, the person was unharmed,” the centre said.

No additional casualties were reported nor were shots fired.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk confirmed a business break-in docket was opened for investigation.

He said the robbers allegedly forced a man they spotted in the parking lot to get into the store and made him lie on the floor, on his stomach.

“They broke the counter where the perfumes are kept,” Van Dyk said.

Police were investigating.
