NEWSFLASH: Motherly instinct helps thwart Centurion hijacking attempt

A Centurion woman is recovering in hospital after her motherly instinct took over during an attempted hijacking in The Reeds. The mother of two sustained cuts from the broken window as she fought a “group” of hijackers who were pulling her handbag out of her vehicle during the hijacking, according to Wierdabrug sector 2 CPF spokesperson Mynhardt le Roux.
“The woman had arrived at her home in Alice Street on Tuesday afternoon, with her two children in her minibus,” said Le Roux.
“The group of hijackers arrived in a white Mercedes Benz. As she was reversing through the half-opened gate they entered the property.

“The woman screamed as they pointed a firearm at her and tried to open doors. They also broke her windows.”
Le Roux said the woman managed to throw away the keys to her vehicle and alerted a neighbour who was driving past.
“The hijackers pointed a firearm at the neighbour who jumped from his vehicle and fled around a street corner. The hijackers managed to take the woman’s handbag only and fled the scene towards Panorama Road.”
Le Roux said the woman was able to alert more neighbours who came to her aid.
“CPF, security and emergency services were on the scene,” he said.“The woman was stabilised and taken to the hospital.”
Le Roux said it was concerning that hijackers had so boldly attempted the crime.

“Luckily the brave mother was able to save herself and her two children from harm.”
Wierdabrug police had not responded to requests for comment by the time of publication.
