Sosh organisation reaches out with hot soup

A charity organisation based in Soshanguve reached out to the homeless at Mabopane station last Thursday when they offered them free soup and bread.

A Soshanguve-based charity organization recently started a soup kitchen for the homeless at Mabopane station.

Founder of Donald Isaack Maluleke Charity Organization (DIMCO), Donald Maluleke said when he started the initiative in 2018, he was not aware of the many lives he would touch.

Maluleke said he was overwhelmed by the response of the needy people living near the station.

Only a few minutes after Maluleke and his team set up, a large number of people had approached them.

“There is nothing in the world that could compare to the feeling of giving to people who probably do not have a way of providing for themselves,” he said.

“This shows that there is more that needs to be done and if the people who have something to give, then we can change someone’s life.”

Maluleke said the aim of the organisation was to assist homeless and needy residents.

“When the homeless came straight to me to thank me and my team for helping them start their day on a full stomach, that just made me want to do more,” said Maluleke.

“We were glad that we made a difference but then thought that we could have brought more soup and bread.”

DIMCO-member, Gontse Moja said being involved in the initiative not only touched the lives of residents but that he was also moved by the people’s reception.

“Giving feels so amazing. You even feel so free after doing so. Interacting with new people you may not know and doing well for them is in turn blessing yourself. It is sad how many people are in need of food every single day,” said Moja.

Resident Chelsea Sibanyoni, who was joined by his wife and son, said he was overjoyed the charity organization had reached out to the needy like his family.

“Both me and my wife are not working. We have to always find a piece job which means the little we have, we have to make it last. So today we managed to get not only a free meal but a healthy one,” he said.

“I never thought that such things happen in real life because we always see these kinds of events on television but I am thankful to this organization.”
