Special father and son time after accident

Jacques and Steyn Steenberg recently had a special father and son break away with a men’s adventure weekend.

The Steenberg family’s lives are nearly back to normal after their teenage son tragically lost his leg in an accident in May this year.

“We are all doing well. It is just back to our normal routine, we have returned to work and Steyn is back to school,” Jacques Steenberg said. Steyn’s left leg was amputated in May after he was in a motorcycle accident on Mother’s Day. After recovering in hospital, the teen spent time at a rehabilitation centre. He returned to school on 22 July, shortly after his discharge from the rehabilitation centre.

Recently Steyn and his father enjoyed a special father and son weekend getaway at Mafefe Nature Reserve in Limpopo. Jacques shared a photo of Steyn and friends on the Steyn’s Story Facebook page. “Father and son weekend. Drove the Orrie Baragwanath pass and camped at Mafefe. A 4×4 adventure,” Jacques captioned the photo of their weekend getaway

“At first Steyn was not too excited about the weekend away, but he ended up enjoying seeing old friends.” Jacques said Steyn was adjusting well and will attend school full time again from next week.

He has also, in the meantime, changed one of his subjects to ease the pressure at school.

“Steyn is still receiving visual, speech and occupational therapy as well as physiotherapy,” he added.

He said there was a slight chance that his son will have to redo his grade next year due to the accident.

“But Steyn is determined to finish and pass his current grade this year.”
