VIDEO: Woman in hospital as building catches fire in Marabastad
The woman had run inside the building to check whether there was a child.
A woman is being treated for smoke inhalation at Tshwane District hospital after a two storey building in Jerusalem street, Marabastad caught fire on Monday.
Tshwane emergency spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the woman had run into the building assuming her child was inside.
“However we searched the building and did not find a child,” said Mabaso
Mabaso said when the emergency services arrives, they found that the entire first floor was in flames.
He said according to eye-witness accounts, the fire had started at the north eastern portion of the building.
Mabaso said it was reported to emergency services that 15 people were living on the first floor.
“We are trying to establish who the owner of the building is.”
He said the building was in a very dilapidated state.
