Lyttelton Manor High School rugby teams enjoyed one of the best seasons in the school’s 56 years of existence, with the u-14, u-15, u-17 and u-19 (first) teams all winning their leagues.

The u-15 and first teams then qualified to play in the Virsekerbeker series, and both teams made it to the finals on Saturday 9 August at Hoërskool Hans Moore in Benoni.

It was bitterly cold when the first team, coached by Mr Wessel van Deventer, ran onto the field, competing against Hoërskool Heilbron and narrowly losing 22-26 in the last few minutes of the game. It was quite evident why Lyttelton Manor High School made it to the final of this prestigious series

The u-15 team coached by Mr Wihan Coetzee, head of rugby at Lyttelton Manor High School, was ready for victory when they ran onto the field to face Hoërskool Balfour. They went all out and jubilantly triumphed 19-11!

With Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North-West all taking part in the Virsekerbeker, this is the first time in the history of this prestigious series that the U15 Cup has been won by a Gauteng school.

We congratulate the coaches, Mr Coetzee and Mr van Deventer, as well as Ms Annemarie Visser – responsible for all the logistical arrangements, who ensured that this extremely successful season and the three Craven week players in the 2019 first team will live long in the memory of the school.
