Months long water leak frustrates Moot resident
A water pipe in 22nd Avenue has been leaking since May.
Moot residents are frustrated that a water leak in the area has not been repaired for months.
According to local resident, Ilonka van Breda, a water pipe in 22nd Avenue, has been leaking since May.
“It appears that the issue is at the main pipe so you can only imagine how much water is wasting,” she said.
However, according to the Tshwane metro, their records showed that the leak had already been fixed, said metro spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo.
“Our records show that the leak was already repaired on 6 July,” he said.

“It is possible that a new leak may have occurred.”
Mashigo said a maintenance team will investigate and effect repairs if necessary.
Van Breda said maintenance workers were there in July but she suspected the leak was not repaired.

“We had since reported it to the metro again, but it was to no avail,” she said.
Van Breda expressed concern about the water being wasted.
“The water has been streaming down the street for over three months. That is a lot of water wasted,” she said.
“Should we not currently have water restrictions?”
She said she was also concerned about a trench the maintenance workers had left in her driveway in July.

“Furthermore, it is unacceptable to me that the road in front of our entrance was not repaired and the hole just gets deeper,” she said.
“We have to struggle daily to get in and out of our driveway.”
Local ward councillor Elmarie Linde said any problem with things that were reported and not addressed could be referred to the ward councillors to escalate.

“I urge residents to please report their municipal issues to the metro,” she said.
“From there on, if you have a reference number, ward councillors can escalate the matter.”

She said complaints could be called in on the metro’s toll-free line.
Linde said she would report this leak to the metro for repairs.
