‘Queens Day’ to remember domestic violence victim
“Jo-Anita was a wonderful person, she was murdered on Women’s Day at the hands of her own husband,” said Terblanche.
What should have been a day to celebrate strong, warrior women during the last week of Women’s Day, turned out to be a day of remembrance for the beloved Jo-Anita Schultz who was shot dead her husband in a murder-suicide.
Pixie Terblanche, owner and manager of Pixie Pink Warrior Queen, an upliftment programme for female victims of domestic abuse hosted a ladies’ morning at the Roof Top Café in the east of Pretoria to honour the courageous Jo-Anita Shultz after her family and friends endured a month of heartache, attorney’s appointments and injustice.
“Jo-Anita was a wonderful person, she was murdered on Women’s Day at the hands of her own husband,” said Terblanche.
“Our goal today as this group of women is not only to comfort each other during a horrible time, but we are also here to celebrate her life, talk about the good times and address some serious issues in regards to domestic violence in our society.

Jo-Anita, or ‘Nita’ as everyone called her, leaves behind a 12-year-old son who unfortunately, had to witness the murder-suicide. Her parents Petro and Flip du Bruyn who also attended the morning, spoke to Rekord to express their heartbreak at losing their second daughter.
“Domestic violence is on the rise in our country. We wish we could’ve done something to prevent this, urged her more to leave when there was still time. Now we understand she’s in a better place, but we will miss and think about her forever.”
