East SAPS commend female detectives during women’s month

The female detectives have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with following the latest convictions in cases they were investigating.

The Brooklyn police celebrated women’s month by acknowledging its female detectives for their good work.

Spokesperson Captain Colette Weilbach said two detectives – Constable Rendani Nemakonde and Constable Petunia Ramarumo – were singled out for their recent good convictions.

Ramarumo investigated a housebreaking and theft case that occurred in Menlo Park in January.

“Joseph Zvomoyo (27) was arrested for stealing taps, copper pipes and window handles at an address in 22nd Street.

“He was found guilty of housebreaking and theft and for being an undocumented foreigner by the Hatfield community court.”

He was sentenced last month, to six years imprisonment of which two were suspended.

“In a trespassing case in Anderson Street in Brooklyn last month, Ramarumo secured another conviction.”

Weilbach said in that case, the court handed down a fine of R4 000 or six month’s imprisonment to Samuel Masondo (31).

Nemakonde showed that the female detectives at the Brooklyn police were a force to be reckoned with.

“In February there was a housebreaking at a student commune in Richard Street in Hatfield. Charles Kgatla (33) was arrested.”

He was found guilty and sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and declared unfit to possess a firearm by the Pretoria magistrate’s court.

“In July, a 20-year-old student was attacked by a car guard in University Road. He stabbed her with a knife.”

Weilbach said a motorist came to her assistance.

“Malose Kgobe (27) was arrested by security guards. He was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment by the Hatfield community court.”

Brooklyn station commander Brigadier Kushie Pietersen honoured all her female police officers “for dedicating their time and energy in creating safe communities for all”.
