UPDATE: North prisoner escapee in court
Police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi last week said they were “hot on his heels” after he escaped from police custody on Tuesday.
The man rearrested after escaping from police custody was set to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
This after Clement Mahlangu was arrested at the weekend.
The 34-year-old Mahlangu escaped while being transported back to the Kgosi Mampuru correctional centre after appearing in the Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court on a charge of rape last week.
Police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi last week told Rekord they were “hot on his heels” after Mahlangu escaped from police custody on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, police officer Samuel Mokoena – accused of aiding and abetting Mahlangu with his escape – appeared in court last week.
Mokoena was remanded in police custody and was set to make a bail application this week.
