Last chance to donate a book and help a child

People have until Friday to donate books to the Donate a Book campaign to help children who don't have access to it.

Rekord, in association with SPAR and the South African National Book Development Council launched the Donate-a-Book campaign, where bookworms from across the city are encouraged to donate unused or unwanted books.

So far, many books have been donated and you still have until Friday, 30 August to make a difference in an underprivileged child’s life.

If you would like to make a donation feel free to visit your nearest SPAR in the Moot, Pretoria East or Centurion areas. Be sure to look out for the designated bins/trolleys.

All collected books will be handed over to children in schools in Mamelodi and Olievenhoutbosch.

The drive is inspired by National Books Week’s 10th anniversary this year. The initiative will see #readbecause trending on various social media platforms explaining why reading for pleasure is so important.

The #readbecause campaign was born out of the need for a collaborative approach towards growing the culture of reading for leisure in South Africa.

Remember to write a personalised message for the child who will be receiving your book to make the experience that much more special.

Any book suitable for high school and primary school learners is welcome.
