Eersterust children ‘overdose on medicine’
Two children (aged 2 and 5) were rushed to hospital where they died after drinking medicine.

Two children from Eersterust were declared dead on Tuesday evening after reportedly overdosing on medicine.
“It is alleged that a five-year-old blind boy and his two-year-old brother were playing at their home on Tuesday when the incident happened,” said police spokesperson Sam Shibambo.
“Apparently, they consumed half a bottle of medicine together and afterwards started feeling sick.”
Shibambo said the children were rushed to the Mamelodi day hospital, where they were declared dead.
“An inquest docket has been opened and an investigation is underway.”

Shibambo urged parents to lock away all medicines or put them out of children’s reach to prevent such tragedies from happening.
Counselling for the bereaved family to help deal with their loss has been provided by the police.
