The operation focused on the R55 and N14 intersection near Olievenhoutbosch among others.

Gauteng community safety MEC Faith Mazibuko urged motorists to take heed of the various safety tips shared on the day.

“We often see motorists taking safety tips for granted but they need to adhere to them,” Mazibuko said.

“Once the enforcement of the new Aarto Act starts some motorists might find themselves on the wrong side of the law.”

“That is why it is very important that motorists be educated on what they may and may not do on the roads.”

Mazibuko urged the female officers to be strict when enforcing traffic laws, but to be kind towards motorists.

“Don’t always be harsh to motorists, but also educate them on road safety. Let’s be friendly and smile.”

The team present during the operation included officers from Johannesburg and Tshwane metro police, as well as the Gauteng provincial and national transport departments.

Some of the safety tips provided include:

  • Making it a habit to use a seatbelt
  • Not overloading your vehicle and reporting those who overload
  • Never drive drunk or without a drivers’ licence
  • Always ensure your vehicle is roadworthy and the registration disc has not expired.
