UPDATE: Amy’Leigh de Jager’s family warn of scams asking donations

“There are apparently people going around collecting money saying it is for us.”

The family of six-year-old Amy’Leigh de Jager who was taken from her mother on Monday morning have distanced themselves from apparent fundraisers and requests for donations.

A post on a Facebook page created for De Jager, namely Vermiste Amy’Leigh De Jager, warned readers not to fall for these apparent scams.

“We would just like to make it clear that we are not running any fundraisers or asking for any donations at all,” the post reads.

“There are apparently people going around collecting money saying it is for us.”

“We have never asked for any money or donations. Please be careful for fraudsters out there.”

The family could not be reached for more information.

De Jager, who was snatched from her mother in front of the Kollegepark Primary School by four men on Monday, was returned to her parents in the early morning hours on Tuesday.

De Jager was dropped off in Shakespeare Street, reportedly by the four men who took her from mother in front of her Vanderbijlpark school on Monday morning.

She was given some money to buy water after refusing to eat or drink anything given to her by the kidnappers, according to a family member.

A couple staying nearby heard De Jager crying and, after identifying her, were able to take her to the police station.
