UPDATE: West boy taken off sedation after burn accident

Logan Barnard, a grade RR learner at Laerskool Saamspan, was taken off sedation on Thursday.

A boy from the west of Pretoria was taken off sedation after he was seriously injured during a burn accident last month.

Logan Barnard, a grade RR learner at Laerskool Saamspan, sustained serious burns during a braai on 17 August.

His mother, Chanie told Rekord that Logan was taken off sedation on Thursday and woke up during the night.

“Although he is awake, he is not completely conscious yet,” she said.

“Logan still has a high fever, but we remain positive.”

If all goes well, Logan will also be taken off the ventilator soon.

Chanie previously said the accident happened at their house in Mountain View when they were preparing for their usual Saturday afternoon braai.

She said Logan was stabilised at Eugene Marais hospital then airlifted to the Garden City hospital in Johannesburg.
