Face of Sosha beauty crowned
University of Pretoria student Vinolia Machava (21) was crowned 2019 Face of Sosha at Falala community hall in Soshanguve Block F on Saturday.
The sixth annual Face of Sosha saw 21-year old Vinolia Machava crowned as this year’s pageant winner.
The event was hosted at Falala community hall in Soshanguve block F on Saturday, where Machava competed against 16 other hopefuls from the ages of 16 to 26 for a chance of representing Soshanguve to the rest of the nation.
Pageant founder 24-year old Mpho Maepa said the main reason he established the competition was to build the confidence of the young girls in Soshanguve who would be groomed to become an inspiration to others.
“I saw a lot of young girls out there with so much passion and pure talent for modelling and that is when I felt the need to groom them and help them to gain confidence,” said Maepa.

“I started my non-profit organisation in 2013, and we had our first annual event in 2014, hosted by MWCB entertainment,” Maepa said.

“Face of Sosha needs someone who can work well with people and someone who knows the place of Soshanguve very well,” said Maepa.
Machava, who was hungry for the title showed great passion throughout the competition.
“As the face of Sosha, I intend to empower young girls out there. To reach out to them in schools and communities, to show them that life is worth more than just teenage pregnancies, drugs and alcohol,” said Machava.

She said she was fully aware of her responsibilities and she was willing to be the best role model she can possibly be to young girls in her community.
Machava is currently in her third year of her social work degree at the University of Pretoria. She first entered a pageant in 2016 and has already five crowns, three princess sashes and two queen crowns. She impressed the judges with her confidence and creative fashion sense.

Contestant Busisiwe Tshabalala (19) said the competition was not necessarily about coming out top but rather the impression you can leave on others.
“This competition has given me the platform of making my dreams come true. I am very passionate about modelling and I am proud of myself for making the to top six. It is really a great achievement,” said Tshabalala.
The face of Sosha 2018 Keitumetse Mnisi said she was pleased with the work she had done during her tenure saying she represented Soshanguve in a positive light.

“I now plan to continue with community work. It is very close to my heart and I will not stop helping the people in my community just because my position is no more,” said Mnisi.
“Face of Sosha is more than just a face, it needs someone who is selfless and willing to make a difference in someone’s life,” added Mnisi.
